Do people still use livejournal9/3/2023 ![]() ![]() but everyone kinda naturally migrated to LJ in the early 00s including myself. I had another I made a couple years before that that I deleted bc I didn't use it much as I hosted my blog on my own domain at the time and LJ had yet to really take off, so I didn't think I needed one. I admit I miss those days somewhat but I probably just also had a lot more time to waste then compared to now so it was more personal to me back thenįor reference I made my current LJ acc in 2002 and have kept it since. it never felt sinister or mean-spirited, it was just "snark" - nowadays we have "call-out culture" and accusing people of the worst things straight off the bat, and with nowhere private to really go to when it inevitably happens to the next person (whether for good reason or not) I dunno. That's not to say it was all sunshine and rainbows, there was still drama ofc, but that was recorded and had communities based around it too lol. it's hard to explain if you weren't there but it was more of a niche, closed-off thing back then and people respected others' personal boundaries more than I find people do today Tbh fandom in general has changed a lot from the late 90s and the early to mid 00s, in some ways for the better, but in some ways for the worse as well. even after people kind of stopped using their own journals because Twitter and such came along, the communities and anonmemes and stuff were in full force. It's definitely dated a lot, in style and ease of use, but the structure of it just really worked well for fandom stuff imo. ![]() it was a great place to meet people, hang out and chat about nerdy interests. It was what tumblr is now but more community-centric. And for some reason her images on the site have expired or something It's odd thinking about how you practically new what she was doing every day and now she's off social media. ![]() I only started using it recently (I'm like a decade late) and I wonder what lj was like back in the day ![]()
